Buenos Aires

Spent almost a week in Buenos Aires after landing in Argentina. There has been a lot of activity in our neighborhood in just first few days we´ve been here. First, people were in the streets when they moved the body of Peron, who was a former president most of you would know as Evita´s husband. I also saw Evita´s grave where she was mummified. When we went by the presidental palace, they were having a rally regarding freeing one Julio Jorge Lopez, who is a political prisoner from what I could tell from the banners but haven´t had time to google yet. Police were present in force, but there was no violence during the rally. It seems like there is a reason people are rallying in the streets here every other day.

I´m having technical difficulties with the camera at the moment. I do intend to post pictures once I get it working again.

If you've been to Evita's palace, you've seen the outlines of the "disappeared" on the sidewalks in front of the palace. Argentina is a wonderful country, but there are some seriously fascist elements there. They murder people who disagree with them. I'm glad that doesn't happen here in America as I disagree with many things the goverment does!

Here's what Amnesty International has to say:

Construction worker Jorge Julio López, who has testified against a man who was
a senior official in the security forces while Argentina was under military
rule, has not been seen since 17 September, when his family saw him at his home
in the city of La Plata, Buenos Aires Province. There are fears that he may
have been abducted by people connected with the former military government
because of his involvement in the trial, and as a warning to potential
witnesses in similar future trials.
